Liquid Penetrant Testing — also known as Dye Penetrant Testing (DPT) or Fluorescent Penetrant Inspection (FPI) — is one of the most widely used surface-inspection methods in the NDT industry. It detects surface-breaking discontinuities in metals, ceramics, and non-porous materials across aerospace, oil and gas, power generation, railways, castings, forgings, and weld fabrication.

Courses are available in three certification schemes — ASNT SNT-TC-1A, NAS 410, and ISO 9712 — in both online (live virtual) and offline (in-person at Bangalore) modes. This NDT method is known as ‘Dye Penetrant testing’ or DPT testing in welding companies. Perceived as the simplest NDT method. Eligibility Requirements — Who Can Enrol?
Requirements for PT Level I, II, III certification may differ based on certification programme. Before registering for a course, make sure you check eligibility for NDT certification.

The Institute is equipped for training as ISO9712, ASNT SNT TC 1A certification schemes. Liquid Penetrant testing course available in online, physical offline mode. Register, attend in virtual mode from anywhere. Based on eligibility candidates can choose level I, II. Learn and apply nearly every PT testing techniques, Method A or Method D. Trainees will have a chance to practice penetrants with sensitivity up to level 4, used in aerospace.

SNT TC 1A programs are preferred for organizations to certify NDT inspectors as per employer written practice. ASNT Level III prepares and approves written practice. This scheme is affordable. Aerospace FPI Level II training as per NAS410
We are equipped for organizing training as per NAS410 and EN4179 on Fluorescent Penetrant Inspection(FPI). Other employer based or ISO9712 certification schemes are NOT generally acceptable in aerospace inspections.
Aerospace NDT division offers FPI Level I, II certifications. Content tailored to employers written practice. Designed specifically for techniques that clients uses on day to day basis. The trainee must also possess prior education, experience as per NAS410 before admission. Documented experience only is acceptable for this course.

Frequently Asked Questions — PT / DPT / FPI Certification Course
A PT Level I technician is qualified to perform specific, pre-defined penetrant testing operations under supervision, following a written procedure. A PT Level II technician is qualified to set up and calibrate equipment independently, interpret and evaluate test results, prepare written procedures, and provide guidance to Level I personnel. Level II is required for most QC inspector roles in industry. Trinity NDT offers both as a combined Level I+II programme in a 2-day intensive course.
All three names refer to the same NDT family. PT (Liquid Penetrant Testing) is the formal technical name used in standards. DPT (Dye Penetrant Testing) is the common industrial term used in welding shops and fabrication companies — it refers to visible red dye (Type II) penetrant systems. FPI (Fluorescent Penetrant Inspection) specifically refers to Type I fluorescent penetrant systems used predominantly in aerospace inspection per AMS 2647 and NAS 410. Trinity NDT’s training covers all three — making it uniquely comprehensive.
Trinity NDT is the only training institute in India with an in-house NADCAP Aerospace Merit accredited FPI facility. This means trainees practice fluorescent penetrant inspection on real aerospace-grade equipment — the same equipment used for actual NADCAP audited aerospace production inspection. Most other institutes offer only basic solvent removable (Method C) technique on simple test coupons. We cover all 7 PT techniques including high-sensitivity FPI at Level 4, giving our graduates a significant practical advantage.
Yes. The ASNT SNT-TC-1A PT Level II course is available in live online mode via Zoom or Microsoft Teams. The full 16-hour theory curriculum is covered in two days of live instructor-led sessions. Digital study materials are provided in advance. A supervised online written examination is conducted on the final day. However, hands-on practical sessions are only possible in the offline (Bangalore) mode. Online candidates may opt to attend a practical add-on session at Bangalore separately.
For the ASNT SNT-TC-1A track, no prior work experience is required to attend the training course. However, the final certification by the employer requires a minimum period of hands-on experience in the method (typically 3 months for Level II, as per SNT-TC-1A Table 6.3). For the ISO 9712 track, candidates must meet the specific training hours and industrial experience requirements per ISO 9712 Annex A for the chosen product form.
